Calgary Fire Department rescues man from construction site trench

Shortly after 2:00 this morning the Calgary Fire Department responded to a construction site at the 700 block of 17 Ave SW for reports of a fall.  Arriving crews found a man, conscious and alert, lying at the bottom of a 3 meter trench.  Fire Department Rope Rescue and Heavy Rescue team members assessed the scene, to ensure the stability of the trench, then extracted the man utilizing and aerial ladder truck and basket stretcher.  Fire crews then turned the patient over to waiting AHS crews who transported him to the hospital. The man, believed to be in his 50s, was apparently walking along the edge of the trench when he lost his footing and fell in. Occupational Health and Safety is investigating.
