Calgary Fire Department Pulls Driver From Submerged Vehicle

Early this morning The Calgary Fire Department Aquatics Rescue Team was called to the scene of a vehicle that had left the roadway and came to rest approximately 4 meters below the surface in a retaining pond at the intersection of Stoney Trail and Glenmore Trail. Witnesses confirmed with the on scene commander that there was a person in the vehicle when it left the roadway and were able to pinpoint the location of where the vehicle settled to the bottom. Armed with this information the Aquatic Rescue Team entered the water and quickly found the vehicle, locating a lone male inside and rapidly removing him. Patient care was transferred to an awaiting Alberta Health Services unit for transport to a local hospital in critical condition.

Investigation by the Calgary Police Services is currently underway and the Eastbound Glenmore Trail off ramp from Stoney Trail will be closed until further notice.
