Calgary Fire Department perform high angle rescue downtown

Calgary Fire Department Perform High Angle Rescue Downtown

The Calgary Fire Department Technical Rescue Team (TRT) performed High Angle elevator rescue downtown. Just after 10:30 pm on Friday July 12, the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) responded to reports of eight people trapped in an elevator at the 100 block of 9 avenue S.W. On arrival crews determined that the Technical Rescue Team (TRT) would be needed to perform a High Angle Rescue.

The broken elevator car had to be secured immediately. Individuals were harnessed and pulled up through the scuttle hatch and then transferred to a second waiting elevator parallel to the secured elevator. Individuals were then lowered through the second elevator scuttle  hatch and then lowered to ground level. All eight individuals reported no injuries and no one needed to be transported to hospital. All other  patrons in the restaurant were transported down the stairs to the main ground level by firefighters.

The scene was left with building maintenance and elevator technicians.
