Calgary Fire Department is now recruiting firefighters

CALGARY (December 13, 2013) – The Calgary Fire Department is looking for community-minded, physically fit, enthusiastic men and women to help make a profound and positive difference in the community.  

Applications for the position of firefighter are now being accepted and will continue to be accepted throughout 2014.

“Firefighting isn’t just a career; it’s a calling for those who find it rewarding to help others and their community,” said Joe Zatylny, Acting Deputy Chief of Administration. “If you have ever considered a career as a firefighter and have the qualifications, we encourage you to apply for a challenging career that makes a difference in the lives of Calgarians.”

Candidates whose applications are received by recruitment before January 12, will have the opportunity to move forward for potential consideration in the spring 2014 class. This new competitive recruitment and selection process will allow the Calgary Fire Department to create an eligibility list for the next two years. CFD is planning to hire more than 200 new firefighters for 2014 and 2015.

The Department is offering non-mandatory information sessions for those interested in learning more about firefighting as a career. The next session is taking place on January 8, 2014 at 7 p.m. in the city’s southeast. During the session, potential applicants will learn about the Department, the job of a firefighter, the prerequisites and the hiring process.
