Calgary Fire Department Investigates Canopy Collapse

maltese crossAt approximately 17:30 this evening the Calgary Fire Department and its confined space rescue team responded to reports of a structure collapse in the 1100 block of Braeside Drive SW. On arrival it was discovered that a decorative canopy facade had collapsed to the ground striking several vehicles. Crews secured the area and investigated the cause. As a precaution the adjoining mall with the same style canopy was evacuated and also checked. After ensuring the structural stability of the remaining structure, the scene was turned over to mall management for further inspection and remediation.
