Calgary Fire Department fights two alarm blaze in Monterey Park

At approximately 1:30 this afternoon, 911 received multiple calls for a house fire on Del Ray Road N.E. Fire crews called for a second alarm shortly after leaving the fire station due to the amount of smoke visible from a distance. When fire crews arrived on scene, two homes were fully involved with fire.

Initially, due to the large volume of fire present, crews were unable to perform a primary search of the two involved houses. Once firefighters brought the fire under control, searches were completed and nothing was found.

Occupants of the source house were home at the time and smelled smoke. They quickly left the house but one man did sustain some minor burns to his hands during the evacuation. He was assessed by AHS but not transported to a hospital. It was initially unknown if there was anybody home at the second house involved, however is was later discovered that the six people residing there, were not home at the time of the fire.

Damage to the two houses is extensive. Three vehicles were also destroyed in the fire. Another neighbouring home sustained some minor heat damage to the siding. A total of 15 people from the two homes are displaced. Fire investigators are on scene to determine the origin and cause of the fire. Access to a portion of Del Ray Road is restricted while fire crews continue their work.
