Calgary Fire department fights structure fire in Deer Run
Just after 3:00 this morning, the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) responded to reports of smoke entering the home from an attached garage in the 2000 block of Deer Side Dr SE.
Upon arrival fire crews found a haze of smoke coming from a 2 story single family dwelling with an attached garage. On initial investigation it was determined that there was a working fire in the garage, crews quickly attacked the fire to prevent it from spreading from the garage to the attached home and the homes surrounding the immediate address.
There were 6 occupants in the home at the time of the fire, 2 adults and 4 children. All family members safely self evacuated with the family dog prior to CFD arrival. The family reported that the smoke alarm in the home alerted them and allowed them to safely exit.
The Calgary Fire Department Investigator is on scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire. Calgary Police Services (CPS) and Alberta Health Services (AHS) are also on scene assisting the family and neighbors.
The Calgary Fire Department would like to remind the citizens of Calgary that smoke alarms help save lives. Smoke alarms should be installed, maintained and regularly tested in every home.
