Calgary Fire Department fights house fire in Kincora

At approximately 5:25 this evening, Calgary fire crews were called to a house fire on Kincora Cove NW. Firefighters could see flames from a distance while en route and therefore immediately called for a second alarm. On arrival, due to the volume of fire and smoke, the fire crews concentrated their efforts on a defensive attack which means not entering the home but fighting the fire from the outside. They also focused on preventing the fire from spreading to neighbouring homes by protecting the exposures. Three tenants were home at the time and were alerted to the fire by a neighbour who was banging on their door. They managed to evacuate safely and without injury. It is not yet known if there were working smoke alarms in the home. Firefighters now have the fire under control and a fire watch will be present throughout the night. Damage to the house of origin was substantial and there was also some heat damage to neighbouring homes. A Calgary Fire Department Fire Investigator is on scene to determine the origin and cause.
