Calgary Fire Department fights deck fire in Marlborough

At approximately 2:00 this morning the Calgary Fire Department was called to Marbank Way NE for reports of a house fire. Upon arrival, crews found a wooden deck, which was attached to a house, fully engulfed in flames. The flames were impinging on the home and extending into the attic. The deck fire was quickly extinguished while additional crews searched the home. An alert neighbor spotted the fire and notified the residents of the involved home. Thanks to his quick actions, the 3 adult residents safely self evacuated prior to CFD’s arrival. As a precaution, firefighters temporarily evacuated 6 people from a neighboring home. No injuries were reported. The involved home suffered minor damage but the residents will have to relocate until repairs have been completed. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Traffic in the area is unaffected at this time. The home did have a smoke alarm but it was not functioning at the time of the fire.

The Calgary Fire Department would like to remind you that working smoke alarms save lives, cutting the risk of dying in a home fire in half. Smoke alarms should be installed and maintained in every home.
