Calgary Fire Department fights basement fire in Woodlands

At approximately 12:15 this afternoon, Calgary firefighters were called to a house fire at the 100 block of Woodpark Circle S.W. Calgary Police Service Officers were originally called to that location for an alarm, but discovered a fire instead and immediately called CFD to the scene. When fire crews arrived, the house was full of thick dark smoke, creating the risk of a backdraft as well as zero visibility conditions. A second alarm was initiated due to the significant heat and smoke present throughout the home. Firefighters ventilated the smoke in order to better locate the origin of the fire which was found to be in the basement. The fire also compromised the structural integrity of certain areas of the main floor, increasing the risk for firefighters. Firefighters now have the fire under control and are currently looking for fire extension. No residents were home at the time and no injuries have been reported as a result of this fire. Calgary Fire Department Fire Investigators are currently on scene to determine origin and cause.
