Calgary Fire Department extricates patient from under LRT

Just before 3:00 this afternoon, Calgary fire crews were called to the LRT tracks near the Sunnyside LRT Station for reports of a collision between a pedestrian and a train. An individual had been struck by a northbound train and became trapped underneath. Firefighters used saws to remove aluminum wheel guards and free the patient. Patient care was then transferred to EMS.

Fire crews then assisted in evacuating passengers off the train. No other injuries were reported as a result of the collision. LRT service north and southbound have been shut down in the area and shuttle buses have been brought in to the LRT stations north and south of Sunnyside to help commuters get home. The collision is currently under investigation.
