Calgary Fire Department extricates multiple patients from fatal car accident

At approximately 0715 this morning the Calgary Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident on the TransCanada Highway just west of Valley Ridge.  The first arriving apparatus came upon a head on collision in the west bound lanes. In spite of the black ice which made the road surface extremely slippery the extrication of the patients was completed in a very timely manner.  EMS confirmed that there was one fatality at the scene and that three other patients have been transported to the hospital. At the present time, both East and West bound lanes of the TransCanada Highway (near Canada Olympic Park) is closed. The scene has been turned over to the Calgary Police Services.
