Shortly after 5:00P.M this evening the Calgary Fire Department was called to Stony Trail and 88 Street S.E. for a grass fire. First arriving crews reported a fast moving grass fire with an estimated size of 35 Hectares. Due to the dry conditions and high winds  this fire was rapidly growing in size . Additional resources were requested and crews were able to gain control a subsequently extinguish the fire. During the fire visibility along Highway 22X was obscured temporarily and the Calgary Police Service provided resources to warn motorists of this hazard.  No injuries were reported . The fire was caused by an overhead power line that came in contact with an adjacent line in the high winds.

During this years warm spring weather Calgarians are urged to be vigilant about the proper disposal of smoking material and to make sound choices about the use of backyard fire pits.
