Calgary Fire Department extinguishes house fire in Ranchlands

At approximately six pm this evening, the Calgary Fire Department responded to Ranchview Terrace NW. The first arriving crews were met by the four occupants of the town house and heavy black smoke coming from a second story window. The crews were able to keep the fire from spreading by utilizing a tactic called a transitional attack. This tactic involves applying a large volume of water from outside whilst an interior attack team is being established. Once the team and proper ventilation were in place, an aggressive interior attack and searches commenced.  Although there is extensive smoke damage to the home, the fire was contained to the room of origin. There was no extension to the adjacent town houses and the only injury was to one fire fighter's ankle. At the present time crews remain on scene checking for hot spots. The investigation into the origin and cause of the fire will commence once the fire is completely extinguished. A fire watch will remain on scene for the remainder of the night.
