Calgary Fire Department extinguishes house fire in Forest Lawn.

At approximately 8 pm on Thursday evening, the Calgary Fire Department responded to Fortalice Crescent SE for reports of a house fire. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered an aggressive fire at the rear of the house. A garden shed as well as a car were fully involved and flames had started breaching the house near the kitchen.

Fire crews simultaneously fought both the interior and exterior fires. The two occupants of the house self-rescued, however, unfortunately, their pet cat was unable to be rescued before succumbing to smoke inhalation as a result of the fire.

The fires were brought under control and  fire crews remained on scene to look for hot spots. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters reported. Fire watch will remain on scene throughout the night the investigation into the origin and cause is ongoing.
