Calgary Fire Department evacuates strip mall in N.W. due to damaged gas line

Shortly after 11 this morning, fire crews were called to the 4100 block of 4th street N.W. by Atco Gas to intiate an evacuation of a strip mall due to a damaged gas line in the bak alley. Fire crews evacuated all businesses, approximately 50 people, and CPS assisted with the closure of 4th street between 40 and 42nd avenue. Atco Gas is currently excavating to clamp the gas line. No homes in the area have been evacuated and fire crews continue to monitor the air quality around that location. No injuries have been reported and 4th street will continue to remain closed until the resolution of this incident.
