Calgary Fire Department evacuates close to 100 people in north east

Shortly after 1:00 this afternoon, a gas line was damaged in a mall parking lot near the intersection of 52 Street and 26th Avenue N.E. Businesses in the area which included a large grocery store, were evacuated. It is estimated close to 100 people including employees and patrons were asked to relocate. Atco Gas shut off two valves and clamped the line to commence repairs. Firefighters continuously monitored the air and maintained a safe perimeter. Once all of the businesses were deemed safe just before 3:00 this afternoon, re-entry was allowed.The high school to the north and the leisure centre nearby did not need to be evacuated. There were no injuries reported as a result of this incident.
