Calgary Fire Department Evacuates Area In Kensington Due To Damaged Gas Line

At approximately 12:10 this afternoon, The Calgary Fire Department responded to 10^th Street and 3^rd Avenue N.W. for a damaged gas line due to construction. Arriving fire crews immediately began evacuating the affected buildings while Atco Gas crews shut off the gas.

Traffic between 2^nd and  5^th Avenues on 10^th Street N.W. was temporarily rerouted.  Once the gas line was shut off by ATCO, firefighters assessed each building and business with specialized equipment.  As soon as firefighters deemed each business to be safe, people were allowed to re-enter.  It is estimated that over 100 people were evacuated. There were no reports of injuries due to this incident.
