Calgary Fire Department evacuates 150 due to damaged gas line in NE

At approximately 3:00 this afternoon, the Calgary Fire Department was called to Castleridge BV NE for a damaged gas line as a result of excavation. Fire crews evacuated approximately 150 people from nearby businesses. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident. ATCO Gas arrived on scene and clamped off the line to commence repairs. Buildings were monitored by CFD Haz Mat firefighters for gas levels before employees and customers were allowed to re enter. This was one of five damaged gas lines from excavation or digging in the city today alone. The Calgary Fire Department wishes citizens to use extreme caution when digging or excavating residentially or commercially. Always contact Alberta One-Call at www.albertaonecall.com before digging.
