Calgary Fire Department evacuates 11 businesses due to damaged gas line in N.E.

At 11:15 this morning, Calgary fire crews responded to reports of a damaged gas line at the 2500 block of 32nd Street N.E. As a precaution, firefighters evacuated 11 businesses and approximately 50 people. The damaged line was located outside and firefighters stood by with hose lines. Fire crews established a safe perimeter and conducted continuous air monitoring. ATCO Gas arrived and shut down the appropriate valve to commence repairs. Once fire crews had assessed the air quality of all involved businesses, re-entry was allowed at 12:25 p.m. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident however gas service to the area has been affected.
