Calgary Fire Department Crews Respond To Two Alarm Structure Fire On Centre Street

At approximately 5:30 pm this afternoon, Calgary Fire Department (CFD) crews responded to reports of a structure fire in the 1900 block of Centre Street NE. A second alarm was called shortly after crews arrived in order to ensure adequate resources on scene.

Upon arrival, visible smoke and flames could be seen from the roof area of a fast food restaurant. Firefighters quickly initiated an interior offensive attack and search. A primary search confirmed no one was inside the structure. Two water towers were then set up to assist in fire attack from a defensive position. Damage and fire extension was limited to the one structure.

No injuries were reported at scene.

CPS assisted and provided traffic and crowd control at scene. Centre St NE between 19th Avenue and 17th Avenue is closed due to fire operations.

Atco and Enmax were dispatched and ensured there were no hazards relating to services.

Fire crews including a fire investigator will remain on scene to ensure there is no fire extension and to confirm extinguishment.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
