Calgary Fire Department Crews Respond To House Fire in New Brighton

At approximately 5:30 pm this evening, Calgary Fire Department (CFD) crews responded to reports of a structure fire in the 700 block of New Brighton Drive SE. Multiple calls were received by 911 call takers as a result of the thick black smoke billowing from the house.

Upon arrival, fire crews faced significant smoke and flame from the second story of the single family residence. Firefighters quickly extended hand lines to control the fire initially from the exterior as well as to protect neighboring exposures. Crews advanced lines into the interior of the home to initiate a search and continue fire attack. As a result of the initial quick defensive attack, there was no damage to exposures or adjacent homes.

8 residents self-evacuated the home prior to CFD’s arrival and were assessed by AHS at scene. No injuries were reported.

CPS assisted and provided traffic and crowd control at scene.

Fire crews including a fire investigator will remain on scene into the evening to ensure there is no fire extension and to confirm extinguishment.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
