Calgary Fire Department Crews Knock Down Kitchen Fire in Renfrew

Calgary Fire Crews were called to the 500 block of 20th Avenue N.E. for a kitchen fire just before 3:00 this afternoon. All three children in the home including a teenager, evacuated the home safely and called 911. A fast response from firefighters resulted in a quick knockdown, limiting damage to the stove and kitchen cabinets and wall.

Kitchen fires are the number one cause of residential fires and home injuries which are completely preventable. The leading cause of kitchen fires is unattended cooking.

The easiest way to extinguish a fire in a pot on the stove is to put a lid on it and turn off the heat. Put on an oven mitt and carefully slide the lid onto the pot. Do not move the pot or open the lid until it is completely cool.
