CALGARY FIRE DEPARTMENT BATTLES HOUSE FIRE IN THE COMMUNITY OF EVERGREEN

At approximately 6:30 this evening the Calgary Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire on Ever Ridge Dr. SW. Prior to the first Fire Truck arriving a second alarm was called. A second alarm duplicates the number of apparatus and Fire fighters responding to the call. Upon arrival, the crew encountered a fully involved house fire and three people who had evacuated the home. It was reported to the Captain that three other occupants of the dwelling were unaccounted for. Due to the large volume of heat and smoke entry into the house could not be made at this time. The crew set up large volume hoses to contain the fire to the house of origin and lessen the chance of the flames spreading to the adjacent homes. Once the fire was brought under control, crews entered the structure searching for any possible victims. Whilst this was occurring, Calgary Police Services were assisting the search process by following up possible leads to the location of the missing people.  It was eventually discovered that the missing people were not at home during this event.  Although there was substantial damage to the house of origin, there was very little damage to the adjacent homes. There were no injuries and at the present time, crews remain on site looking for hot spots. The investigation into the cause is currently underway.

The Fire Department would like to remind people to have an outside meeting place a safe distance from the front of the house.
