Calgary Fire Department and concerned citizens rescue man from under a vehicle

At approximately 4:30 this afternoon, the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) responded to a pedestrian verses vehicle call on 16 Ave and 19 St NW. The arriving crews were met with an unusual scene; a group of citizens had surrounded a small car and were in the process of trying to take the weight of the vehicle off the person trapped under it.  It was quickly discovered that the person under the car had been standing on the street corner; and had been struck and dragged by the vehicle which was making a left hand turn. The witnesses to the accident surrounded the car trying to assist the trapped man. The CFD utilized high pressure air bags to lift the vehicle, quickly freeing the unfortunate victim. EMS treated and transported the patient. The quick thinking and fast action taken by the bystanders helped reduce the amount of injuries sustained by the victim. The scene has been turned over to Calgary Police Services.
