Calgary fire crews respond to suspicious grass fires in the north east

Just before 2:30 in the afternoon on Wednesday, August 18, Calgary 9-1-1 started receiving calls about multiple spot fires near McKnight and Edmonton Trail in the north east. The fires were in grassy areas and had the potential to damage nearby buildings and businesses if not extinguished quickly.

Prior to the arrival of Calgary fire crews on scene, employees from Fix Auto Calgary Coachworks North used a hose to contain one of the fires, employees from PartSource used fire extinguishers from their store to contain a second fire, and employees from Varsity Chrysler used a water truck and fire extinguishers in order to contain a third fire. There were a total of five fires reported in the area and they are not  believed to be accidental.

Fire crews extinguished all fires and the incident is under investigation by both CPS and CFD. If anybody in the area at the time of these fires has photos, video or information, especially prior to CFD arrival on scene, please email piofire@calgary.ca
