Calgary Fire Crews Respond To Structure Fire In Glenbrook

At approximately 1000 pm this evening, Calgary Fire Department (CFD) crews responded to reports of a structure fire in the 4000 block of 35th Ave SW.

Upon arrival, fire crews faced significant smoke and visible flame in the backyard and rear side of a private residence. Firefighters quickly extended hand lines to control the main body of the fire as well as to protect neighboring exposures. The fire was controlled and contained quickly by crews.

Impacted residents self-evacuated from the source home as well as on homes on either side before CFD’s arrival. Atco and Enmax were dispatched and ensured there were no hazards relating to services. AHS attended the incident but no injuries to civilians or emergency workers were reported. One pet was located by search crews and is now in the care of its owners.

One home suffered moderate damage as well as damage to the shared fence and exterior backyard contents of a neighboring residence.

Fire crews including a fire investigator will remain on scene throughout the evening to ensure there is no fire extension and to confirm extinguishment.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
