Calgary fire crews respond to Ranchlands apartment fire

At approximately 2:30 am on Sunday, October 27, 2019, the Calgary Fire department responded to a reported structure fire in the 6000 block of Ranchview Drive N.W. When crews arrived they were met with smoke and flames coming from a second story suite of an apartment block. Crews initiated an aggressive interior attack and were able to contain the fire to the suite of origin. Unfortunately, during the initial search of the suite a male occupant was found deceased.

There were no other occupants found in the suite and approximately 20 residents of the apartment were evacuated as a precaution. A Calgary Transit bus was brought to the scene for the evacuated occupants due to the cold weather.

Calgary Fire Department crews including an investigator remain on scene to determine the cause of the fire and to ensure that there is no fire extension. The Calgary Police Service are also on scene.

If anyone has information, photos or video, especially prior to the fire crews arrival on scene, please email piofire@calgary.ca
