Calgary Fire Crews respond to Kitchen Fire in the NW

At approximately 8 this morning Calgary Fire crews responded to reports of a kitchen fire in the 200 block of Panamount View NW. Fire crews arrived to find a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 children ages 9 and 12) waiting for them outside their home. The fire was quickly extinguished by fire personnel and damage was contained to the kitchen area. No injuries resulted from this incident that is currently under investigation. The family is being housed in fire department apparatus while crews ready the house for reoccupation.

The Fire Department would like to remind citizens that should a fire occur on the stove, always have a lid nearby and smother flames by carefully sliding the lid over the pan. Turn off the burner and do not move the pan. Never pour water on a cooking pan grease fire and never discharge an extinguisher directly into a cooking pan grease fire as it can spread the flames. Watch what you heat.
