Calgary Fire Crews Respond to House Fire in Altadore

Calgary Fire Crews Respond to House Fire in Altadore

At approximately 5:00 this afternoon, the Calgary Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 1900 block of 43 Avenue SW. Fire crews arrived at the single family, bungalow style residence and were met with a significant volume of heavy brown smoke. A second alarm was immediately called as a precautionary measure, but those resources were not required. Fire crews pulled lines from the engine to knock down the exterior flames that had extended up the side of the home and up into the roof and attic area. Crews then initiated an aggressive interior attack to contain the fire in the attic. Crews conducted overhaul activities in the attic to confirm that the fire was out. Two adults and four children had self evacuated prior to Calgary Fire arrival on scene. ATCO gas and Enmax were also on scene to shut off gas and electricity to the home. The family will not be able reoccupy the dwelling this evening. One bystander at the scene was treated by Alberta Health Services. Fire crews remain at the incident scene and the fire is still under investigation.
