Calgary Fire Crews Respond to early morning Blaze in the NW Community of Evanston

 At approximately 3:20 this morning, Calgary fire crews responded to the 300 block of Evanspark Garden Northwest for reports of a building fire. Fire crews arrived to find a two-story single-family home fully involved in flames. The first arriving officer immediately called a second alarm on arrival due to the possibility of adjacent homes catching fire. Fire personnel were met by the single occupant of the building, a female in her 20s who along with her cat, escaped the home without injury. Homes on either side of the involved structure were immediately evacuated as a precaution. Both adjacent homes had 2 people in them and were accommodated by neighbours for a couple of hours. Houses along the block were built to the new fire code that asked builders put fire resistive sheet rock on the exterior of the building underneath the siding between buildings. This aided firefighters in keeping the fire confined to the building of origin. Some damage occurred on the adjacent buildings in the form of melted siding. Fire crews remain on scene monitoring hot spots. The cause of the blaze is currently under investigation, there were no injuries at this incident.
