Calgary fire crews respond to Dover Glen apartment fire

Fire upgraded to second alarm

At approximately 3:00 on Thursday afternoon, 9-1-1 received multiple calls reporting fire and smoke coming from a suite in an apartment building located on Doverglen Crescent S.E. When fire crews arrived, they found a suite fully involved with fire spreading to the other units immediately above the source unit.

Fire crews used ladders and an aerial to access the building from the outside and quickly get the fire under control. The building's 98 units were completely evacuated of approximately 200 residents with no injuries reported. City transit busses were brought to the scene to shelter the evacuees. In order to respect the requirement for social distancing between evacuees, twice the number of transit busses were requested and supplied by Calgary Transit.

Damage to the suite of origin is significant with fire damage to the two suites immediately above including the roof.

A fire investigator is at the scene to determine the origin and cause of this fire. If anybody has photos, video or information regarding the fire, especially prior to CFD arrival on scene, please email piofire@calgary.ca
