Calgary Fire Crews Respond to a Townhouse Fire in the NE

At approximately 12 o'clock today, Calgary Fire crews responded to the 800 block of Madeira Drive NE for reports of a house fire. Crews arrived to find 4 adults in their mid - 40s and three male children ages 4, 6 and 7 waiting for the Fire Department outside of their 2 story townhouse. One of the adults smelled smoke and noticed the fire in one of the bedrooms, he then ushered the children and remaining adults out of the building then called 911 from outside. One adult was evaluated and released by EMS for smoke inhalation. There were no other injuries reported at this incident.  The townhouse is 1 of 5 in a row in this complex and was the only one damaged during this incident. Cause of the blaze is currently under investigation.

 

Crews noted that although there was a smoke detector in the building, it was not functioning at the time of the fire. Calgary Fire fighters would like to remind citizens to test their smoke alarms at least once a month using the test button or other means such as the mute button on the TV remote, if the alarm has that feature.
