Calgary Fire Crews Respond to 2 Alarm House Fire in Canyon Meadows
At approximately 1:50 pm today, Calgary Fire Department (CFD) crews responded to reports of a house fire on Canso Crescent SW.
Upon arrival, fire crews faced significant smoke from a single family home. Firefighters quickly gained access to the interior, and extended hand lines to control the fire as well as to protect neighboring exposures from the exterior. An aerial ladder truck was staged on standby in order to provide an elevated master stream if needed.
A second alarm was called in order to ensure adequate resources were available.
A homeowner self-evacuated from the source home before CFD’s arrival. Atco and Enmax were dispatched and ensured there were no hazards relating to services. AHS attended the incident but no injuries to civilians or emergency workers were reported.
The source home’s second floor and roof was significantly damaged and one occupant will require alternate accommodations.
Fire is out at this time and crews including a fire investigator will remain on scene to ensure there is no fire extension and to monitor any hot spots.
The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.
