Calgary fire crews quickly extinguish basement fire in Castleridge

Shortly after 1:00 this afternoon, Calgary fire crews were called to the 100 block of Castlebrook Way N.E. for reports of a house fire. An astute neighbour called 9-1-1 after noticing smoke coming from the home.

Arriving fire crews encountered thick black smoke coming from the house and called for additional resources. After a quick interior fire attack and thorough search of the home, no occupants or pets were found inside. The fire was quickly brought under control and fire damage was limited to the basement. There is smoke damage throughout the house.

No surrounding homes needed to be evacuated and there was no damage to neighbouring properties. No injuries were reported as a result of this fire and it is believed that nobody was home at the time the fire occurred.

It is unknown if smoke alarms were working as they were found melted once the fire was extinguished by firefighters. A Calgary Fire Department Fire Investigator is on scene to determine the origin and cause of the fire.
