Calgary Fire Crews Fight Two Alarm Attic Fire in Hawkwood

At approximately 12:05 p.m. on Thursday, January 13, 2022, multiple calls were made to 9-1-1 reporting dark smoke coming from a single family residence on Hawkdale Close N.W.  On arrival, fire crews called a second alarm for additional resources due to the volume of smoke visible coming from the roof of the home.

Upon entering the home, firefighters surprisingly encountered virtually no smoke on the main level, a light haze on the second level yet found heavy smoke and fire inside the attic. Much of the drywall had to be pulled down from the second level ceiling by firefighters to access and extinguish the fire. A hole was also cut into the roof to access the attic space from the exterior.

Nobody was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. Fire crews kept the fire contained to the house of origin but damage to the home is considered extensive. A Calgary Fire Department Fire Investigator attended the scene to determine the origin and cause of this fire. This fire is not believed to be suspicious in nature. It is unknown at this time if the  residential smoke alarms activated as a result of the fire.
