Calgary Fire Crews Fight Large Grass Fire In North West

At approximately 2:00 pm on Thursday afternoon, Calgary 9-1-1 started receiving multiple calls for reports of a large grass fire in the vicinity of 144 Avenue and Shaganappi Tr NW. Sixteen fire apparatus including bush buggies, tenders and engines were dispatched to attack the fire from multiple sides. No buildings were damaged and no injuries have been reported.

A coordinated effort between Calgary Fire Department (CFD) crews and Rocky View County Fire crews was necessary as the incident spanned both jurisdictions. Other agencies involved included Calgary Police, RCMP, Calgary Roads, and AHS.

The fire created large volumes of smoke prompting many citizens to call 9-1-1.The cause of the fire is currently unknown, however if anybody who was in the immediate area has photos, video or information regarding the cause of the fire, especially prior to CFD arrival on scene, please email piofire@calgary.ca

Fire crews remain on scene extinguishing hot spots as of Thursday evening.
