Calgary Fire crews fight basement fire on Rosehill Drive NW

 

 

 

At approximately 1;00 this afternoon, a resident at the 1200 block of Rosehill Drive N.W. called 911 to report a fire in the basement of the duplex. Upon arrival, fire crews saw smoke coming from the basement, quickly entered the home and successfully brought the fire under control. Three residents self evacuated with one being assessed by AHS and not transported. Three residents in the neighbouring duplex were also evacuated as a precaution. The suite of origin sustained significant fire damage to the basement with smoke damage throughout the home. The neighbouring duplex did have some smoke enter which activated the smoke alarm. Fire crews extinguished the fire, ventilated the smoke and monitored the air in both sides of the duplex for carbon monoxide levels. No other structures were damaged as a result of the fire.There were four cats in suite where the fire originated and one is unaccounted for. The neighbouring duplex had two cats of which one is currently missing. Calgary Fire Department Fire Investigators are on scene to determine the exact origin and cause of the fire.
