Calgary Fire crews fight another house fire in the south east

At approximately 12:50 this afternoon, 911 received multiple calls for a house fire on the 14500 block of Mount McKenzie Drive South East. On arrival, the Fire Captain immediately called for a second alarm due to the volume of smoke and fire visible. Firefighters' aggressive fire attack prevented the fire from spreading to neighbouring homes, resulting in minor damage to only the siding of one home. The family, including four children, safely evacuated without injuries. The home's smoke alarms did not activate to alert them to the fire. The origin and cause of the fire are currently under investigation by Calgary Fire Department Fire Investigators.

Calgarians are urged to do the following to ensure a fast and safe exit from their home should there be a fire:

• Have working smoke alarms on every level of your house
• Test your smoke alarms monthly
• Change batteries yearly
• Replace after 10 years (battery operated and hard wired)
• Practice your home escape plan twice per year
