Calgary fire crews fight afternoon attic fire in the southeast

At approximately 2:50 this afternoon, Calgary fire crews were called to the 5400 block of 14 Avenue S.E. for reports of fire in the attic. First arriving fire crews saw smoke and flames coming from vents on the roof of the home.

The resident home at the time had self evacuated prior to CFD arrival however there were three cats and one dog still in the house which were successfully rescued by firefighters.

Fire crews kept the fire from spreading to other parts of the house by quickly cutting holes in the roof to provide better access to the fire.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire and a Calgary fire investigator was called to the scene to determine the origin and cause of the blaze.

Four residents will be displaced for some time until repairs are made to home.
