Calgary fire crews extinguish NE kitchen fire

At 8:30 this morning, Calgary fire crews were called to a single family home on Whitefield Close NE for reports of a house fire. First arriving firefighters were met with significant smoke coming from the kitchen area of the home. Two children who were home at the time, safely self evacuated the house and called 911 with the help of a neighbour. One adult briefly went back in, unaware the children were out and therefore needed to be rescued by firefighters. His care was transferred to waiting AHS personnel and he was transported to hospital. Firefighters did not hear activated smoke alarms upon entry into the home. Crews quickly knocked down the fire and searched for hot spots. The kitchen of the home sustained significant damage with fire extending into the attic. There is smoke damage throughout the house. Fire investigators are on scene to investigate the exact origin and cause of the fire.
