Calgary fire crews evacuate 100 in Bridgeland for propane leak

At approximately 2:20 this afternoon, Calgary fire crews responded to a Bridgeland intersection for a truck leaking propane. The truck was carrying a large propane tank used to fill smaller tanks on a construction site at 9th Street NE. 100 people in total were evacuated from the immediate area as a safety precaution. Firefighters determined that the leak was originating from the transfer pump on the truck. The emergency shut down was activated and the leak was substantially slowed. The CFD Haz Mat team monitored air in the vicinity and allowed evacuees back inside after half an hour when it was deemed safe to do so. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident. Fire crews will remain on site until the leak has been completely stopped and repaired by a technician.
