Calgary fire crews called to vacant house in Bridgeland for fire

Shortly before 6:00 this evening, fire crews were called to the 700 block of McDougall Road N.E. due to multiple calls to 9-1-1 reporting a house fire. Callers stated there was smoke billowing out of the windows. The house appeared to be vacant as some of the windows were boarded up.

Firefighters found nobody inside the house but did find items that suggest people may have been staying there periodically. Crews quickly extinguished the fire, however during the interior fire attack, one firefighter sustained upper body injuries and was taken to hospital for assessment and treatment.

No other injuries were reported and a fire investigator is on scene to determine the origin and cause.  Fire crews remain on scene to look for hot spots and provide fire watch.

If anybody has any information, photos or video of the fire, especially prior to CFD arrival on scene, please email Carol Henke at piofire@calgary.ca
