Calgary Fire Crews Called For Early Evening House Fire

Shortly after 6:00 P.M.. this evening the Calgary Fire Department was called to the 200 block of Saddlemont Boulevard North East for reports of a house fire.  First arriving crews reported large volumes of smoke coming from the residence on arrival. After establishing that all occupants had exited the structure prior to crews arriving the first arriving officer then determined to launch an  interior attack on the fire. Crews were able to quickly contain and subsequently extinguish the fire which had originated in the kitchen area. No injuries were reported and damage was confined to the room of origin. Nine residents in total were displaced as a result of the fire and they will not be able to reoccupy their residence because of the damage. The fire was reported by one of the occupants of the home. Fire investigators have initiated their investigation and cause has yet to be determined. Local Traffic was temporarily affected during this event but has since returned to normal.

The Calgary Fire Department would like to take this opportunity to remind Calgarians of the importance of working smoke alarms. Early detection and an audible alarm provides occupants with the best opportunity for a safe exit from a fire event. In this particular event there were two non functioning smoke alarms.
