Calgary Fire Crews Battle South West Building Fire

At approximately 6:20 on Monday morning, December 6, 2021, multiple calls started coming in to 9-1-1 reporting smoke and flames coming from a restaurant located at the 9600 block of MacLeod Trail S.W. Due to the volume of smoke and fire, the first arriving captain upgraded the incident to a second alarm for additional resources.

Firefighters were unable to enter the structure due to the intense fire inside and the risk of building collapse. Aerial master streams were used to fight the fire which appears to have started on the outside, making its way into the roof structure and then quickly spreading to the interior of the building. Part of the roof did collapse during firefighting efforts.

The fire was called under control at approximately 07:00 and fire crews continue to put out hot spots. Calgary Police Officers assisted at the scene by managing traffic and sanding trucks have been requested to sand icy roads in the area.

No injuries have been reported as a result of this fire. A Calgary Fire Department Fire Investigator and Calgary Police Service Arson Detectives have been called to the scene to investigate the origin and cause of this fire, which may be suspicious in nature.

The Calgary Fire Department would like to thank all the citizens that called in to 9-1-1 as soon as they saw smoke and flames. If anybody has photos or video of the fire especially prior to fire crews’ arrival on scene, please email piofire@calgary.ca as this may assist with the investigation.
