Calgary crews fight house fire in Beddington Heights

At approximately 4:25 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, 9-1-1 received multiple calls to report a house fire on Berkley Crescent N.W. When fire crews arrived on scene, thick black smoke and flames were visible coming from the front of the bungalow. Firefighters entered the home and quickly knocked down the flames. A search if the main level and basement found nobody else inside.

One occupant had evacuated the burning house prior to fire crews' arrival on scene. She was assessed by EMS for injuries. Neighbouring homes were evacuated as a precaution. Firefighters assessed the air in those homes to ensure it was clear of smoke and carbon monoxide prior to letting residents back in.

It is not known if the residence had working smoke alarms.  Damage to the home is severe as a result of the fire and smoke. Fire crews prevented fire damage to nearby structures. A Calgary Fire Department fire investigator is on scene to determine the origin and cause of this fire.
