At approximately 1:20 this afternoon, fire crews including the Hazardous Materials Team responded to the 9900 block of Shepard Road S.E. for a leaking propane tank which had been placed inside a container or drum. Someone at that location had noticed that the drum was starting to bulge, and recognizing this as a safety hazard, called 911 and initiated an evacuation of the building.  Firefighters including the Hazardous Materials team and CPS are working together to safely remove the drum from the building. The presence of other chemicals in the building have increased the complexity of this operation. Approximately 40 people remain evacuated from the business and roads in that area remain closed until they are safe to reopen.
