Building Fire in Fairview

At approximately 5:30 this evening, the Calgary Fire Department responded to a 911 call for a structure fire in the 7000 block of Farrell Road in the southeast community of Fairview. On arrival crews observed smoke in the area, and on investigation located smoke and flames issuing from a large bay door at a multi-unit commercial strip mall. Firefighters forced entry into the structure and were able to quickly bring the fire under control with large caliber hose lines. Once inside, fire crews were able to search the area for occupants and determined that the building was unoccupied.

On scene crews are working to remove smoke and extinguish hot spots in the source unit that was heavily damaged by fire and smoke on the interior. The adjacent attached units suffered only smoke damage. There were no injuries on scene and the Calgary Fire Department is working with Calgary Police to secure the scene and ATCO is assisting with utilities. Firefighters will be on scene for the next several hours and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Calgary Fire Department would like to remind Calgarians that working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms save lives.
