Attached Garage in Castleridge sustains considerable damage in early morning fire

At approximately 0730 this morning, the Calgary Fire Department responded to a garage fire in the community of Castleridge NE. Due to the large volume of black smoke and flames that could be scene while en-route, the Captain declared a “working fire” prior to arriving on scene.  The first arriving apparatus were met by the owners of the house who confirmed that all three occupants had vacated the home and all family members were accounted for. The fire which was building in volume and intensity had vented through the garage roof and was impinging on the neighbour’s house. The fire crews quickly set up large volume hoses and nozzles between the two houses to protect the exposures. Damage to the adjacent house was kept to a minimum with most damage being confined to the siding. The house of origin experienced considerably more damage as the fire spread to the second floor of the home. The fire is now out and the investigation team is on scene beginning their investigation into the cause of the fire. Due to the quick reaction by the owners of the home, there were no injuries. Citizens are reminded that upon discovering a fire or smoke detectors being activated, to evacuate the residence immediately, then call 911.
