Aquatics Resue Personnel Bring Man To Shore

At approximately 12:35 p.m., the Calgary Fire Department responded to a 911 call for a man walking on the river ice near Edworthy Park. The CFD Aquatics Rescue Team was deployed and used an inflatable boat to safely approach the man, secure him, and bring him to shore. The man, in his late forties, was attempting to take a short cut northbound over the river.  Fortunately, there were no injuries a a result of this incident.  The Calgary Fire Department would like to emphasize to citizens the dangers of walking on ice.  Calgarians are asked to stay off of all ice that is not designed and maintained for recreational use. Keep a safe distance from river banks and lake shores. If you see someone on the ice, call 9-1-1.
